Sony Bravia Vpl-aw15 Hd LCD Projector 972 Hrs *nr*
After two years of flawless service, my projector failed to turn on the other day. It flashed the red status light three times, which. According to the manual, indicates that it needs a new lamp. Since we had family coming over for the holidays later that evening, and the kids were going to watch “the polar express” on blu-ray, i went ahead and bought a new 1080p projector. I’m a computer technician, so it seemed like a natural thing to try.
After removing the lamp and then putting it back in. The projector came back to life!
On the second picture, i hooked my computer up to the hdmi port and displayed the espn home page on the screen, so. You can see that the projector is functioning as of today.
On the espn page you can see where it says “week 16″, with today being the start of nfl week 16. Even though the projector now seems to be working normally, i have no way of knowing whether it will keep working for two years, two hours, or won’t start up the next time i hit the button. Generally a lamp should last for 2000-3000 hours, but you just never know.
The screen image looks much better in person than it does from a camera! The projector is in excellent physical condition, and comes complete with the remote, power cord, and lens cover. I have the manual around somewhere, but i don’t know if i’ll be able to find it since we just moved. For now, assume that it does not include the manual, but if i find it i’ll throw it in the box. The projector is coming from a. A few more thoughts on this projector. I was actually very happy with this projector, and didn’t plan to upgrade anytime soon, but now that i have a huge home theater space, my old 108-inch screen just doesn’t seem big enough. I’m planning on upgrading to a 150-inch screen, and i figure that the extra resolution of a 1080p projector may be useful for such a large screen. Even though this is a 720p projector, on my 108-inch screen i couldn’t imagine the picture being any sharper. If you look at the screen capture above, with the flowers, you can get a idea of the detailed image this projector produces. Check out the fine fuzz along the edge of the stalk on the middle flower! I did extensive research before choosing this projector over other worthy competitors such as the panasonic pt-ax200u. There may be some other projectors that beat the vpl-aw15 in one category, but. I don’t believe that any other 720p projector produces a better overall picture in terms of sharpness, color reproduction, contrast, and black levels. My brother and parents both have panasonic 720p lcd projectors, and while they look good, they just don’t look quite as sharp and vivid as my sony. There may be some dlp projectors that approach my sony in overall picture quality, but the dlp projectors are not very flexible on placement. This sony has a large lens zoom and picture shift range, letting you place the projector almost anywhere in the room. As i’ve changed houses, screens, and projector placement, i’ve been very grateful to have such flexibility. As mentioned above, i just replaced this projector with a new 1080p lcd model. I was expecting good things, since the epson had received good reviews, but i was disappointed to discover that. This sony actually put out a better picture than my new 1080p projector! Even though the epson claims to have a higher contrast ratio, my sony had “blacker” blacks and seemed to have more contrast.
I was so spoiled by my sony, that i just won’t be happy with the epson. It looks like to get a better picture than my sony, with the same placement flexibility, i’ll need to spend $3000 or more on a higher-end sony or jvc. Needless to say, the epson is on it’s way back to the store!
